Denver days

After landing we said our good byes to the kids and made our way to get our truck from the Red Lion parking lot and get to our room at the Doubletree, always a worthwhile chain in our experience. My honey had more biz and we had our tickets for the Rockies/Giants series since before we flew to Cancun…It was the “weekend when we get back” after all 😉 Might as well stay, biz or no. The business did materialize however and this took us to a new neighborhood, Capital Hill, 9th and Lincoln area.

Friday night, game time was 6:40, so we caught a bite to eat at a place called Mexico City Lounge, yes, we still craved Mexican food even after 10 days in Cancun! Enchiladas, Tostadas, Tacos and Happy Hour Margaritas and we were ready to get to the park. Friday night highlights were a squeeze bunt and an “in the park” home run. Rockies won 6-5. We sat front row, seats 1 and 2 of section 122 at the end of the Rockies dugout on the first base line…At least until the drizzle and 40 degree temperatures got the best of us and we moved up under the overhang. Not my favorite weather but a great game none the less.

Saturday, day 2 pregame took place at Larimer Beer Hall where we indulged our craving for a good ole’ American Burger, shared order of tots and IPA and Stout. Start time was 6:10 and the sky was clearing and the sun shone on the field until it set, it was brisk at 54 degrees but way better than Friday. This game lacked the stellar unusual play excitement of the first game but two fans who jumped onto the field provided this evenings best entertainment.  The one that came out of Centerfield dressed in Hawaiian attire made it 3/4 of the way across the field. The shirtless one from left field literally launched from right next to our seats 1 and 2 in section 146 midway down the 3rd base foul line. He slammed his knee against the cement barrier as he launched and was forcefully tackled to the ground in no time. I bet his in jail nights were miserable. If you are unaware, never think this is a cute, fun stunt. It results in jail, fines and felony on the record not to mention being permanently banned from the property. Not good. Rockies brought down the second win with a score of 12-3.

Sunday hearlded mostly sunny skies with low 70’s temperature. Prime spring “day game” conditions. We enjoyed an omlette and hot cakes late morning breakfast at 20th Street Cafe and then made our way to the park. Originally, we had anticipated another showing from the Giants star pitcher, Bumgarner (who we saw opening day in Phoenix), but he was on the DL after a dirt bike accident on his off day.  The excitement of this game ended up coming in the 5th inning from the seat right next to me down the first baseline mid front row of section 117 from none other than my one and only. He dove for a pop fly and if not for some bumbling would have had the ball. I held onto his pant leg as if that would have stopped him should his momentum have ended up getting the best of him. Thank goodness that was not the case. Sadly, the ball was tossed to a young girl down the row. He did get some notoriety and as is my practice in providing you some laughs at his expense, check out the video I made of the footage he received on the local sports channels coverage. Hilarious, you must give him a hard time when you see him 😉 After the game, we cruised the city to get our bearings at a higher level and doing our version of sociological impact studies from the business point of view. Dinner was healthy and enjoyable at Pho 888. (Sadly I cannot get my video to upload! I will post asap, you can’t miss it 😉
Wrapping the business end of things with a final round of morning meetings was the agenda on Monday. Immediately after we headed out the I-25 for a lunch stop at Rock Bottom Brewery in Loveland with my dear sister in law. Next, a pretty, red rock and green prairies dotted with antelope drive across Highway 287 from Colorado to Wyoming and then on to I-80. Monday night found us stopping for the night in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We found ourselves excited for home yet dragging our feet. Discovering new things everyday has been wonderful. We gave ourselves the excuse of one last “break the rules” dinner before returning home to fruits, veggies, fish and getting back to fighting weight. Coyote Creek Steakhouse in old downtown was really pretty good with nice variety and creative flair to the menu. Our server Brad was friendly and took good care of us. We hooked up with some other guests out celebrating a birthday and ended up closing down one of the bars and meeting lots of nice people.

Tuesday found us winding our way to I-84 and the final road to home territory. It was brutally windy cold (at least this is how it felt to these tropical warmed bones) with snow flurries. We had certainly hoped that coming home at this point in Spring would have allowed us to miss this white stuff until it begins to fly and signal time to be on the road next season. But noooo. Our own 10 day home weather forecast was dotted with snow. We literally almost bailed to head south to Vegas when we hit Utah but decided responsibility might be wiser. :-/ Snowbird travels 2016/17 are rapidly coming to an end. This 90 day tour has afforded incredible experiences. I hope you have enjoyed tagging along. We can’t stay idle for long so be sure to watch for our day to day adventures worth sharing! I love giving you the highlights! #travelwithme#livelifewithme
